The Chicago in 2022 Worldcon Bid is incorporated as a non-profit corporation in Illinois.

We are a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. We are not sponsored by any local groups in Chicago.

Chicago has hosted the Worldcon seven times, which is the most any city has hosted!

  • Chicon (1940)
  • TASFiC (Tenth Annual Science Fiction Convention) (1952)
  • Chicon III (1962)
  • Chicon IV (1982)
  • Chicon V (1991)
  • Chicon 2000 (2000)
  • Chicon 7 (2012)

As for Chicago in 2022, we are a group of fans who love Chicago and love Worldcon! Some of us have a lot of experience in running conventions, and others are new to convention running. Our goal is to bring the Worldcon back to Chicago for a record 8 th time, show the world our beautiful city, and either introduce them or welcome them back to our amazing local fandoms.

We would love to have you join our bid! There are two primary ways to get involved as a volunteer with the Bid.

  1. Join the Bid Committee! The Bid Committee is the voting membership of the corporation. To become a member of the Bid Committee, a one time payment of membership dues is required. That amount is $400.

Over the next 4+ years, the Bid Committee will have the opportunity to attend the annual meeting in November and vote on members of the Board of Directors for the corporation as well as Officers for the Board. The Bid Committee will also have the opportunity to vote on various decisions, including facility selection, Guests of Honor, convention name, convention chair, and (should we win), how to distribute any remaining funds after the convention ends in 2022.

If you are interested in joining the Bid Committee, please click HERE to email us.

  2. Become a Bid Team Volunteer!Volunteers are the core of our bid. We need people who are interested in helping us at conventions around the country, doing things such as sitting at a bid table to answer questions or helping throw a party. We also have some larger volunteer tasks to help organize what we are doing. Bid Volunteers do not have to pay any dues, and do not get to vote on corporate decisions; however, input from volunteers on issues being voted on is always welcomed. If you are interested in being a Bid Volunteer, please click HERE to email us.
